Umbrellas have existed for nearly 4,000 years... They were first discovered in West Asia's historic Mesopotamia. In that distant era, the sun was a more threatening enemy than rain, which is why powerful parasols appeared to resist this threat, this is the early sun umbrella.

These new umbrellas were originally made from palm leaves, papyrus and peacock feathers and were exclusively used by the upper classes in ancient Egypt and Mesopotamia. Although, this product is too heavy and often requires people to carry it. Parasols also appeared in medieval China. They were made of bamboo sticks and covered with leaves and feathers.

Ancient Rome, Greece, Egypt, the Middle East and India

As early as the 4th century BC, ancient Rome, Greece, Egypt, the Middle East and India had portable awnings designed to provide shade. They look similar to the shape of modern umbrellas, but are made of materials such as leather, leaves and even feathers.

However, this creative parasol is not suitable for everyone. In some cases, the king dictated who can and cannot protect himself from the sun. The most favored subjects are of course the royal family, clergy and other nobles.

China

In the 11th century BC, those who could afford this luxury used the early forms of umbrellas. Due to limited international trade routes, the first batch of waterproof umbrellas or umbrellas since then failed to reach Europe.

France

The French were the first to realize that getting wet is worth avoiding.
At the beginning of the 18th century, the Parisian businessman Jean Marius invented a lightweight, waterproof parasol. In 1712, the French princess Palatine bought one—and it set off a craze for ladies across the country. Soon, the French man also hid under the umbrella.

Nowadays, umbrellas are the necessities of life for many of us. Many kinds of umbrellas have appeared in various countries and markets around the world. There are transparent umbrellas, children umbrellas, golf umbrellas, inverted umbrellas, folding umbrellas, rainbow umbrellas and so on.
